Women’s Health Clinic was founded in Winnipeg in 1981, so 2006 marked our 25th anniversary.

We are pleased to tell you that in 2006 we celebrated the fact that Women’s Health Clinic has been providing health care, information and advocacy to women for twenty-five years.  As we celebrated our twenty-fifth anniversary, we also looked to the future and continued our reputation for innovation.  We are currently working with our partners in the community and government to develop a proposal for Manitoba’s first Birth Centre.  Building on the experience in other countries and provinces, we hope to soon be able to offer high-quality, midwifery care to birthing women in a client-centred environment.

Celebrating 25 years of

 Empowerment, Choice and Action

Over the last year, we have been commemorating Women's Health Clinic's 25th anniversary.  We have had the opportunity to celebrate at our annual "Stepping Out for Women's Health" event where we were entertained by the legendary Heather Bishop and set a new high in our fundraising efforts for our Endowment Fund.  We are also taking this opportunity to reflect on our strong roots and plan for future growth in new directions.

Without the commitment of our funders, we would simply cease to exist. This past year we have received significant increases from core funders like the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority, the United Way and Manitoba Family Services. We are grateful for the trust that these organizations place in us to achieve our shared goals of better health for women.

Volunteers continue to be the lifeblood of Women’s Health Clinic. If one were to trace all those who have volunteered in programs, on the Board, on various committees or at our events in the last twenty-five years, you would find a community of women who have become leaders in government, business, health care, and the non-profit sector. Our volunteer training programs have turned out teachers, doctors, lawyers, artists and other professionals who continue to spread the message of choice and empowerment that they learned through their work with the Clinic.

All staff members invest their passion and professionalism into providing quality care to women everyday. They push each other to achieve higher levels of excellence and to stay true to the principles which we strive to follow. We are a dynamic force in women’s health because of the knowledge and integrity that our staff bring to the work. Their good humour, patience and sense of joy also makes for a healthy and happy workplace.

Twenty-five years is a milestone for any organization.

At 25, Women’s Health Clinic is established enough to have a secure foundation, but still young enough to follow a bold and idealistic path of change and growth. As we reflect on our accomplishments and plan for the future, the audacious vision of the women who dreamed us into being will continue to guide our way.
