Women’s Health Clinic
is a pro-choice, non-profit community-based health clinic that promotes the
health and well being of women of all ages by facilitating empowerment,

Birth Control & Unplanned Pregnancy Counsellors Trained volunteer counsellors provide pro-choice, non-judgmental, compassionate support, information and referrals to clients on birth control and unplanned pregnancy options. Volunteer counsellors are also able to discuss issues related to sexuality and relationships, STI/HIV prevention and safer sex practices. Volunteer training to become a BC/UPP volunteer counsellor is held twice a year in September and March. Training is approximately 60 hours held over 12 weeks. This training program prepares volunteers to work from a woman-centered, feminist counselling model. This counselling model strives to empower clients to make informed decisions. Weight Preoccupation Community Education Program Trained volunteers provide feminist-based health education to children, teens, and women through interactive presentations on the topics of self esteem, body image and weight preoccupation. This training program is an excellent opportunity for dynamic women to meet and share ideas, as well as a place to reflect on their personal experiences, acquire knowledge, develop analytical, communication and presentation skills- all done in a supportive and fun environment. Volunteer training for the Community Education program is held once a year. Training is approximately 50 hours, held over 10 weeks. The next training will begin in September 2009. Sherpa Mother's Volunteer Program The Women’s Health Clinic Sherpa Mothers Program is looking for Volunteers to provide support to women who are pregnant or have just had a baby. Training is provided and begins January 14, 2010. Volunteering is done from home. This volunteer program offers women with preschool children an opportunity to be trained and matched as a peer support mentor to a woman in the community who is pregnant or has a child under the age of one. Volunteer Mentors provide support and education on the issues of pregnancy, breastfeeding, postpartum emotional adjustments, infant development, interpersonal communication skills, parenting and community resource information. Volunteers will receive a minimum of 50 hours of training over a 12 week period and be required to commit approximately 2 hours per week for a full year to the program.
