You’ve attended prenatal classes or pre-adoption workshops and now baby is home. What’s next?
Coping with Change workshops are designed to help you understand the everyday changes you might experience when introducing a baby into your life.
Coping with Change is a 5-part workshop that is also offered as individual education sessions to community groups of parents. Some topic themes are:
Professional development seminars designed to provide health and social service providers with knowledge and skills to help normalize a woman’s experience after giving birth or adopting a baby.
An interactive presentation for ESL/EAL groups on the basics of birth control, preventing sexually transmitted infections, pap tests, and being empowered to make good choices for your sexual health.
For more information, please call Tanya at 204-947-2422, ext. 213.
Women’s Health Clinic has been providing education, intervention and treatment related to body image, weight preoccupation and disordered eating for over 20 years. Our Weight Preoccupation Community Education Program promotes healthy body-image and tools for eating disorder prevention.
Our volunteer speakers encourage discussion and questions to facilitate a participatory learning environment. Speakers are available for day or evening presentations. Presentations are usually an hour long but we can be flexible to the needs of your group.
We do request an honorarium to help cover the costs of training and reproductions of materials. However, we will still provide the service if your group is unable to make a donation. This program is partially funded by the United Way.
To arrange a volunteer speaking engagement, or for more information, please contact Marina at 204-947-2422, ext. 114 or by email at commed@womenshealthclinic.org

As of September 2010, we are distributing copies of our smoking cessation resource Catching Our Breath: A Journal About Change for Women Who Smoke only from our website. You are welcome to download and distribute copies for personal or institutional use, provided that you reference the Catching Our Breath title and Women's Health Clinic on the distributed materials. We will no longer be printing hard copies or updating the electronic version of the COB Journal.
We have recently reviewed the journal: the information remains relevant and current except for the statistics and resources. We encourage readers to contact their local public health office and online links to local smoking cessation groups. Please note that the Catching Our Breath Facilitator's Guide is no longer available.
Acknowledgements: We remain grateful to Deborah Holmberg-Schwartz, the staff of Women's Health Clinic, and the facilitators and researchers who have contributed to Catching Our Breath for their work and commitment to ensuring women-sensitive approaches to tobacco use.
Catching Our Breath is a unique approach to helping women overcome some of the problems they face in using tobacco. Catching Our Breath is for women who want to:
The Catching Our Breath approach affirms that every woman's life is precious and worth the time and effort it takes to quit smoking.
The Catching Our Breath Journal encourages women to identify and practice healthy alternatives to smoking. These include using journalling, music, conscious breathing, relaxation techniques, self-affirmation and rewards. Being good to yourself and having fun are part of the journey to a smoke-free life!
