Free breakfast intended to bring community together.
Winnipeg, MB – June 16, 2023 – Hey Cuzzin’ returns for our second annual free breakfast celebrating National Indigenous Peoples Day on June 21, 2023. Hey Cuzzin’ is a collaboration between Blue Thunderbird Inc., Crisis and Trauma Resource Institute (CTRI), Neecheewam Inc., and Women’s Health Clinic (WHC). Last year’s premiere edition had close to 100 attendees despite pouring rain, and we are expecting more this year.
This year features a free breakfast, powwow demonstration, community gathering and live entertainment featuring Buffalo Red Thunder Drum Group, Emcee Yvon Dumont, Fiddler Dylan Gaudry, and more. We ask participants to bring their own water bottles and chairs if possible, but we will have limited supplies available. Breakfast will be on a first come, first served basis.
“Come for good food, good times, and all our relations!” says Cory Campbell, Executive Director of Neecheewam Inc.
“As we walk the path of reconciliation, we are mindful of the connections we share with all our relatives,” says Nathan Gerbrandt, CTRI Managing Director. “We commit to developing relationships based on mutual respect, openness and having fun together over food and sharing.”
“Being a part of this event is a highlight of my year,” says Kemlin Nembhard, WHC Executive Director. “The power of community and celebration is truly something to behold.”
