Exam Rooms

Physical assessment is an important part of prenatal care.  In the exam room, your midwife will perform a physical exam, including a head-to-toe check-up.  They will listen to your heart and lungs, check your thyroid, talk about dental care, do an abdominal exam, and other assessments such as a breast assessment or pelvic exam. Midwives respect your privacy and will get your informed consent before exams take place.

Midwives will offer family planning teaching and contraception at your 6-week postpartum visit, which is the last midwifery appointment for your pregnancy.  We can prescribe oral contraception, injectables, and insert intrauterine devices (IUDs).

Birth Rooms

In the birth room, you will progress through labour to birth your baby. You will then rest and recover for 3 to 6 hours after the birth before going home.  You are welcome to engage in your personal and cultural practices (i.e. smudging) during your labour and postpartum.

The rooms are spacious and have a number of amenities for you to use during and after labour. All rooms have a private bathroom that include a shower, a tub, yoga/peanut balls, ladders/robozo for support and stretching, heating pads/cold packs, and a large adjustable bed.

Medical Equipment

Your midwives will set up the medical equipment and make sure it is all working for each birth. This includes:

Fetal heart rate doppler, nitrous oxide (for pain relief), IV supplies/fluids, antibiotics, local anesthesia (for sutures), medications to prevent/respond to postpartum bleeding, and newborn resuscitation equipment.

You and your baby’s health and safety is of upmost importance to us. We have a clear process for working with paramedics and have ambulance access if needed.

Family Area

Birth is a celebration of life and family. You can invite your family, friends, doula/support people, or photographer/videographer to Ode’imin for support as you birth. They are welcome to spend time in the family area and people are only invited into the birth room when you want them to see you. We have a television with Netflix, toys/colouring, coffee, tea, water, microwave, toaster, and a fridge your support people can use.

Childminding Room

Our childminding room has toys, books, and tables with chairs for children while parents have appointments. Please note: a childminder is available only during specific hours. Please call our front desk for our childminding hours.

Meeting Space

We have two meeting rooms (Prairie Room and Wisdom Room) that serve as spaces for meetings, workshops, or programming that may be available for community use. All rooms have white boards, tables and chairs, and an overhead projector. Telehealth may be available. If you are interested in using these meeting spaces, please contact us..

The Wisdom Room holds approximately 25 people and has a full kitchen attached. It also offers floor to ceiling windows and a beautiful view of the garden.

The Prairie Room holds approximately 15 people.
